ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: National Highways and Motorways Police (NH&MP) Saturday urged the motorists to drive carefully on the motorway observing road safety rules and avoid unnecessary travel on motorways during rainy weather currently prevailing in various parts of the country.
Spokesman of the NH&MP said Saturday that the motorists should avoid applying sudden brakes and take safety measures during their travel in rain. He informed that, to avoid accidents during the rain, motorists should take safety and precautionary measures.
The travellers should either call NH&MP helpline 130 or Help Centers on all toll plazas to get information about the weather prediction before planning their journey.
The NH&MP has taken numerous safety measures to make safe travelling for the road users to avoid accidents, the spokesman further said.
He said that it has been made mandatory for Heavy Vehicles (HTV) and Public Transport Vehicles (PSV) to check their brakes before entering the motorways and highways.
“Time to time information would be conveyed immediately through media,” he added.
He said that the Met Office has predicted further rain and the conditions (during Night/Morning hours) would prevail over plains of Punjab (Gujranwala, Lahore, Faisalabad, Sahiwal, Multan and Bahawalpur divisions), Peshawar and Sukkur divisions during next three days.
The spokesman said that Motorway Police, in collaboration with Radio Pakistan, has introduced a new facility for the benefit of road users. Now road users can get latest information regarding weather and road conditions on national highways including N-5, N-10 & N-25, as well as the motorways.
This will help the road users in planning their journey, he added.
