RAWALPINDI, Pakistan: Rawalpindi district Police, Rangers and Army on Monday conducted flag march in the city aimed at maintaining peace and tranquility during Ashura. 

The flag march carried out on the directive of City Police Officer (CPO) Rawalpindi Israr Ahmed Khan Abbasi, started from Police Lines and after passing through Kutchery Chowk, Mall Road, Chur Chowk, Flashman’s Hotel, Marrir Chowk, Liaquat Bagh, Fawara Chowk, Bansawala Chowk, Jamia Masjid Road, Kohati Bazar, Murree Road, Chandni Chowk, 5th Road, New Town, Chandni Chowk and other roads culminated at the starting point.

Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Operations Rawalpindi Irfan Tariq led the march in which SDPOs and SHOs of different police stations, contingents of Army, Rangers, Elite, Mohfiz, Reserve Force personnel, Police Commandos, Civil Defence personnel and women police were present.

The SSP said that police have made comprehensive security arrangements for the holy month.

He added the flag march was to show preparations of the police and other law enforcement agencies during Muharram and to counter any threat and maintain peace in the city.

SDOPs and SHOs have been directed to make effective security arrangements in this regard in their respective areas while police would maintain a close liaison with peace committees and organizers of Muharram congregations and processions, he added.
