ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on Tuesday issued the 46-point code of conduct for the upcoming general elections, the code drafted after consultations and consensus with various political parties, Dispatch News Desk (DND) reported.

The code of conduct bars the president, governors, ministers and members of the caretaker government from touring the election constituencies. It assures the participation of women in the election process and casting their votes.

According to it, banners, posters and hoardings are to be made in accordance with a specific size dimensions and it is the responsibility of the district administration and district returning officer that this code of conduct is followed.

The code states that campaigning cannot be done within 400 yards of polling stations, while canvassing has been disallowed within 100 feet of polling stations. No polling camps are allowed to be made outside a polling station.

Weapons’ display and firing on the day of polling and the day after have been banned, while the use of loudspeakers has also been disallowed, except at election meetings.

It says that those candidates who do not comply with the code of conduct set by the ECP, will be disqualified and declared ineligible to contest elections.
