ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited (SNGPL), a subsidiary of the Petroleum Ministry, looted Rs 10 billon from its consumers during the financial year 2015-16.
While Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi was the Petroleum and Natural Resources in previous Cabinet, the SNGPL purchased the Regasified Liquefied Natural Gas (RLNG) for Rs 96 billion, and sold it at Rs 106 billion.
But the present government didn’t initiate any inquiry or take action against any official involved in illegally-carried out buying and selling of gas, claimed a report published on Roznama 92news on Thursday.
According to documents, during the 2015-16, the SNGPL purchased RLNG for over Rs 96 billion under a swap agreement from the Sui Southern Gas Company Limited (SSGCL) through Pakistan State Oil (PSO), and sold it to Independent Power Producers (IPPs), CNG, fertilizer sector, textile sector and general industries at over Rs 106 billion 85 crore. The RLNG was sold from March 2015 to June 2016.
In June 2016, the SNGPL and the Sui Southern Gas Pipelines Limited (SSGPL) inked the gas transportation agreement.
As per documents, under the tri-party agreement among SNGPL, SSGCL and PSO, RLNG had to be supplied to IPPs, CNG, fertilizer sector, industrial sector and other consumers. But SNGPL illegally sold RLNG to industrial sector and others without fulfilling legal requirements.
Documents revealed that the Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited illegally purchased RLNG for Rs 96 billion, sold it for Rs 106 billion; thus looted Rs 10 billion from consumers.
