ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on Monday said Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) was still the most popular party among the public.
While talking to the party workers in Islamabad, Nawaz Sharif said their opponents were scared of PML-N’s public popularity. “Workers have been the real strength of PML-N,” he said.
The former minister said the party leaders and workers had given strong message to the opponents through their unity.
“I am thankful to the workers for their love,” Nawaz Sharif added.
Earlier in the morning, a large number of PML-N workers welcomed Nawaz Sharif, Maryam Nawaz and Captain (retd) Muhammad Sardar when the Sharif family members arrived in Islamabad to appear before the accountability court judge Muhammad Bashir for National Accountability Bureau (NAB) references hearing.
However, the hearing was adjourned till afternoon in view of expected judgment of Islamabad High Court (IHC) on an appeal by Nawaz Sharif for clubbing of references.
When the hearing would resume at 01:00 pm today, three prosecution witnesses would record their statements while counsel for the former prime minister would cross-examine them.
The two-member bench of IHC comprising Justice Mohsin Akhtar Kayani and Justice Aamer Farooq will announce the verdict today afternoon on a plea filed by the former prime minister to merge all three NAB references into one.
Meanwhile, the PML-N leaders met Nawaz Sharif, and discussed the court proceedings, party policy and next strategy.
