MONITORING DESK: Heydar Aliyev International Airport Baku Azerbaijan has become the most punctual and the busiest airport in the region.

According to the data available from year 2019, Heydar Aliyev International Airport set the record and served 4.73 million passengers during year 2019 and figure was 7 percent higher than the same figure in 2018, reports State Run News Agency AZERTAC.

Punctuality of flight timing indicates that Etihad Airways, Kuwait Airways and UIA (Ukraine International) achieved 100% punctuality rate in December 2019 while departing from Baku.

At least 90% of scheduled flights were performed on time by Aeroflot and Gulf Air. Nordwind (88,9%) and Lufthansa (88,2%) also achieved high results.

Overall, in December 2019, 75% of the flights were carried out accordingly to the schedule or delayed by no more than 15 minutes.

It should be noted that in December 2019, Heydar Aliyev International Airport has served 37 passenger airlines, which operated flights to more than 60 different destinations.

It is pertinent to mention that Heydar Aliyev International Airport is the largest airport in the region in terms of passenger and freight traffic, the airport terminal area and capacity of the cargo complex.

This airport set the record in 2019 by serving 4.73 million passengers. The passenger traffic has also grown at the airports of Nakhchivan (646 thousand passengers, 1.5 percent more than the same figure last year last year), Ganja (154 thousand, 10 percent more than last year) and Lankaran (18 thousand passengers, 14.5 percent more than last year).

The top 10 airlines including Turkish Airlines (Turkey, 492,000 passengers), FlyDubai (UAE, 237,000), Aeroflot (Russia, 193,000), AirArabia (UAE, 169,000), UIA (Ukraine, 124,000), Qatar Airways (Qatar, 106,000), Lufthansa (Germany, 66,000) and SCAT (Kazakhstan, 62,000) operated in year 2019.

In 2019, 37 passenger airlines operated flights to more than 60 different destinations from Heydar Aliyev International Airport.
