RIYADH: Saudi Arabia’s King Abdullah has appointed former chief of Saudi intelligence Prince Muqrin bin Abdulaziz al Saud as country’s deputy Prime Minister, Dispatch News Desk (DND) reported on Saturday.
The 67-year-old Muqrin after the appointment has become third most powerful figure of the Saudi Arabia after Shah Abdullah and crown prince Salman.
“His Royal Highness Prince Muqrin bin Abdulaziz al-Saud, adviser and special envoy to the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, is appointed second deputy to the prime minister,” said a Royal Court decree carried by the state news agency SPA.
Muqrin headed Saudi intelligence until he was replaced in July last year. He is the youngest son of the kingdom’s founder Abdulaziz ibn Saud.
