PakistanPakistan set world record of planting saplings

THATTA: Pakistan set a world record on Saturday as around 300 volunteers planted 670,000 mangrove saplings in a day along the coastal belt of Thatta , the Sindh Forest Department claimed.

The previous record of planting 611,000 plants in a single was held by India.

According to details, around 300 volunteers on Saturday made frantic efforts to plant over maximum number of mangroves along the coastal line in an effort to beat a world record held by India.

Plantation is carried out at Thatta’s coastal area of Kharo Chan. The massive campaign began at 6.20 am in the morning.

The initiative was carried out with the support of the Asian Development Bank, Coastal Community Development and the Forest Department.

Earlier as well this record was held by Pakistan when in 2009 over 541,000 seedlings were planted in the same area. But unfortunately due to lack of proper care most of these plants were destroyed.
