MELBOURNE: Legendary cricketer Wasim Akram will tie the knot with Melbourne-based Shaniera Thompson shortly, sources close to family of the famed left-arm bowler confirmed on Sunday.
“Yes, Wasim and Shaniera are engaged; they are getting married at the year-end. I wish them good luck,” said the source.
Thirty-year old Australian beauty Shaniera Thompson belongs to Melbourne and Wasim Akram has confirmed that his fiancé has accepted Islam.
Shaniera said while shedding light on marriage with Wasim Akram that she cannot forget that moment when he proposed her.
“I said yes immediately to Wasim Akram but asked him to talk with my father for the marriage,” she added.
While replying to a question over accepting Islam, Shaniera said Islam had always captivated her.
“Wasim Akram is an eastern man so he was shying at time of proposing me,” Shaniera Thompson revealed.
Wasim Akram has said that he dicide of never marrying again after demise of first wife Huma but after seeing Shaniera, he changed his mind. Wasim’s first wife, Huma, died on October 25, 2009 at Apollo Hospital in Chennai state of India. They got married in 1995, and had a son, Taimoor, in 1996 and another son, Akbar, in 2000. Huma died 15 years after marriage.
Shaniera Thompson met Wasim Akram first time in 2011.
