ISLAMABAD: The federal cabinet will meet today in Islamabad with Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif in the chair to discuss security situation in the wake of US missile strike that killed Taliban chief Hakimullah Mehsud and harmed peace process with the Taliban.

Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan will brief the meeting about the prevailing internal security situation and the government’s strategy to review dimensions of its relations with the United States.

The sources said that the prime minister is also likely to hold consultation with the army chief General Ashfaq Pervez Kayani who is retiring on November 29.

Moreover, sessions of both National Assembly and Senate have also been convened today to debate the dimensions of Pak-US relations in the backdrop of fresh missile attack that killed Hakimullah Mehsud.

Hakimullah Mehsud, who had a $5 million US bounty on his head, was killed on Friday in the drone attack in the restive North Waziristan tribal region.

Subsequently, Foreign Office in a statement had condemned the attack and said that these strikes have a negative impact on the mutual desire of both US and Pakistan to forge a cordial and cooperative relationship and to ensure peace and stability in the region.
