LeT involved in attack on Indian consulate in Herat: Karzai

NEW DELHI: The banned outfit Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) was involved in the attack on the Indian consulate in the main western Afghan city of Herat last week, the Afghan President Hamid Karzai said.

On May 23, four heavily-armed attackers stormed a house close to the Indian consulate in Herat and opened fire on the building in a pre-dawn assault that was eventually repelled by security forces. In the attack, at least two policemen were wounded; however there were no casualties among the Indian staff.

“The incident is condemned by the Afghan people as it is condemned by the people of India. This was a clear, clear attack by terrorists,” the Indian media quoted Karzai who was in New Delhi to attend Narendra Modi’s oath taking ceremony.
