ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The federal minister for defence Khawaja Muhammad Asif said on Thursday that the government has started process of registering First Information Report (FIR) of Model Town tragedy that resulted in the killing of 14 Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT) supporters.
In his address on the floor of the National Assembly on Thursday, the defence minister rejected the notion that the ruling Pakistan Muslim League (PML-N) is influencing the judiciary. He said the additional session Judge and the Lahore High Court have given their verdicts against us.
The defence minister also reiterated that the government in no way will give up a single inch on unconstitutional demands of protesting parties.
Khawaja Asif said that the government has shown the utmost restraint in dealing the protesting parties and has negotiated them to resolve the crisis. However, he added, the government will not allow them to take the initiative in their hands.
The minister said that a number of Parliamentarians belonging to various political parties have given countless sacrifices for supremacy of law and the constitution and we will ensure that their sacrifices will go in vain. He said that we will not allow anyone to harm the system, the parliament and the constitution.
