LHC dismisses petition, seeking disqualification of Nawaz Sharif

LAHORE, Pakistan: The Lahore High Court (LHC) on Monday dismissed a petition about ineligibility of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif.

The petition was filed by the lawyers forum of the Pakistan Tehreek-e Insaf (PTI) on August 30, seeking disqualification of Nawaz Sharif as the member of the National Assembly under article 62 and 63 of the constitution for speaking lies on floor of the house.

Last month, Nawaz Sharif said while speaking on the floor of the lower house of the parliament that on the request of both Imran Khan and Dr Tahirul Qadri, the Chief of Army Chief General Raheel Sharif asked him to permit meeting with them.

However, later in a message posted on Twitter, the Director General Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR) said, “[The] COAS was asked by the Govt to play [a] facilitative role for resolution of current impasse, in yesterday’s meeting, at #PM House.”
