International Day of Persons with Disabilities being observed

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The International Day of Persons with Disabilities is being observed across the world on Wednesday with the theme “Sustainable Development: The Promise of Technology “.

The day annually being held on December 3 since 1992 aims to promote an understanding of disability issues and mobilize support for the dignity, rights and well-being of persons with disabilities.

It also seeks to increase awareness of gains to be derived from the integration of persons with disabilities in every aspect of political, social, economic and cultural life.

It is estimated that persons with disabilities around the world make up 10 percent of the population, and 80 percent live in developing countries.

Meanwhile, the Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif said in a message on the International Day of Persons with Disabilities, that all available resources are being utilized for rehabilitation of special persons.

The chief minister said that the provincial government has taken several important measures for rehabilitation of special persons and kids and to make them a useful part of the society.

Shahbaz Sharif said that every segment of society will have to play its part to provide a respectable place to special persons in the society.

Moreover, he said that special persons can also play an effective role for the development and prosperity of the country.
