Madaris involved in suspicious activities identified, NACTA meeting told

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The intelligence agencies have identified some Madaris which are involved in suspicious activities, a meeting of the National Counter Terrorism Authority (NACTA) was told on Friday.

The NACTA and other concerned departments meeting was held in Islamabad on Friday with the Federal Minister for Interior Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan in the chair to review implementation of the anti-terror national action plan.

The meeting was informed that a three-point strategy is being implemented to purge the Madaris of extremism.

During the meeting, the interior minister said that legislation is being done to check sale of illegal mobile SIMs (subscriber identification modules).

The meeting was briefed that verification of unregistered SIMs is underway and the process will be completed within three months.

It was further told that the process of registering Afghan refugees has been started in all the four provinces, and 7,000 refugees have been registered in Punjab using biometric system.

In the next phase, the Afghan refugees would be shifted back to their camps with cooperation of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR).
