IED blast occurs in Bajaur agency

PESHAWAR, Pakistan: A remote-controlled improvised explosive device (IED) blast took place in Mamond tehsil of Bajaur agency on Friday morning that left a member of local peace committee injured.

The explosion took place when the local peace committee member Malik Gul Firosh came out of his house.

The Bajaur agency is part of the volatile northwestern federally administrated tribal areas (FATA), where various banned terror outfits including the Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) are mainly based.

A full-fledged military operation Zarb-e-Azb has also been continuing against militants in the tribal region since June last year.

Meanwhile, addressing a think-tank of Royal United Services Institute (RUSI) in the United Kingdom, the Director General Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR) Major General Asim Saleem Bajwa reiterated the Pakistan Army’s resolve to ensure writ of the state in Bajaur and North Waziristan agencies at all costs by wiping out terrorists.

The DG ISPR said that effective military operations are underway in these agencies to purge the areas of terrorists.

Bajwa said that even the United Nations has acknowledged the achievements of Pakistan Army against terrorists in the operation Zarb-e-Azb.
