Pakistan, Azerbaijan vow to promote bilateral cooperation

BAKU, Azerbaijan: A one-on-one meeting was held between President Mamnoon Hussain and his Azeri Counterpart Ilham Heydar Aliyev in Baku, the capital of Azerbaijan.

Later, the delegation level talks were also held between the two sides.

During the talks, the two countries reaffirmed their commitment to promote bilateral friendship and cooperation in diverse field including energy and tourism.

The two countries also signed various agreements.

In a joint declaration, President Mamnoon Hussain’s visit to Azerbaijan was declared a historic occasion. The declaration said the visit would provide impetus to bilateral cooperation and called for turning the relationship into a strategic partnership.

The declaration also called for early resolution of Kashmir and Nagorno-Karabakh issues which would ensure regional peace and stability.

It was also agreed to expand cooperation on curbing terrorism, extremism, separatism, organized crimes, smuggling of drugs and arms and human trafficking.

Earlier on Wednesday, President Mamnoon Hussain reached Baku on a four-day official visit to Azerbaijan.

The president was greeted at the Baku international airport by Deputy Prime Minister of Azerbaijan Yagub Abdulla oghlu Eyyubov and Pakistan Ambassador to Azerbaijan Khalid Usman Qaiser.
