PM Nawaz leaves for Turkey to discuss Yemen situation

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on Friday morning left for Turkey on a day long visit to discuss the emerging situation in the Middle East with the Turkish leadership.

During his visit, the prime minister would hold talks with his Turkish counterpart Ahmet Davutoglu and President Recept Tayyip Erdogan on the new developments in Yemen.

“The Prime Minister and the President of Turkey will exchange views on the situation relating to Yemen. They will also discuss how the two countries can be helpful in addressing the issue,” the Foreign Office Spokesperson Tasnim Aslam said in a statement on Thursday.

In his departure statement, Nawaz Sharif said that Pakistan believes in a peaceful solution to the Yemen conflict in a bid to promote unity and integrity among the Muslim Ummah.

The prime minister expressed the hope that serious diplomatic efforts can help restore peace, security and harmony in the Middle East.

The Advisor to Prime Minister on Foreign Affairs and National Security Sartaj Aziz, the Special Assistant on Foreign Affairs Tariq Fatimi and the Foreign Secretary Aizaz Ahmed Chaudhry were also accompanying the prime minister.
