Altaf Hussain appears at London police station as part of money laundering probe

LONDON: The Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) Chief Altaf Hussain arrived at the central London police station on Tuesday as part of the money laundering investigations.

The MQM chief was accompanied by the party leaders Dr Farooq Sattar and Babar Ghauri when arrived at the police station from his residence northwest in London after his bail period in money laundering case ended.

It is likely that the MQM chef will seek extension of his bail in relation to a money laundering investigation conducted by the London Metropolitan Police.

Earlier in the day, while addressing party workers and activists gathered at the Jinnah Ground in Karachi’s Azizabad area, Altaf Hussain asked his supporters to pray for him, and said that one has to undergo tests in a political struggle. He also urged his followers to remain calm.

The 60-year-old Altaf Hussain was arrested by the London Metropolitan Police from his residence in northwest London on June 3 last year on the charge of money laundering.

Four days after his arrest, the MQM chief was released. Later, he was granted two bail extensions ─ the first in July 2014 and the second on December 3, 2014.
