BAHAWALPUR, Pakistan: A murder convict was hanged to death at the New Central Jail in Bahawalpur on Tuesday morning.
The sources said that the condemned prisoner Luna Khan was executed on the directives of a court after he was found guilty of killing his brother-in-law.
Luna Khan hailed from Hasilpur tehsil of Bahawalpur district in southern Punjab.
With the latest execution, 70 death row convicts including 55 in Punjab have so far been hanged till death in various jails across the country since a six-year moratorium on the death penalty was lifted following the December 16 Taliban attack at the army-run school in Peshawar.
The United Nations, the European Union, Amnesty International and Human Rights Watch have urged the Pakistan government to re-impose the moratorium on the death penalty.
