SocialDG Rescue Punjab says children are harbingers of safety

LAHORE: The Director General, Punjab Emergency Service (Rescue 1122) Dr. Rizwan Naseer said that school-going children are harbingers of safety and can change the specific road behaviors of their parents and others as well. He said that children can play vital role in building safer communities in Pakistan by sensitizing the general public about road usage, a press release issued by Rescue 1122 states.

While addressing “Road Safety Awareness Seminar for Kids” organized by Safe Communities Pakistan (SCP) at Emergency Services Academy on Wednesday, Dr. Rizwan Naseer praised the efforts of First Muslim British Parliamentarian Chaudhary Muhammad Sarwar, President SCP. Over 250 school children of Elite Grammar School, Balsome House School and Children’s Academy High School participated in the seminar, which was also attended by the members of Executive Body of SCP including CEO Message Communication Sohail Aziz, Director TABA Foundation Khalid Butt and Road Safety Trainer Asif Khawaja. The objectives behind this seminar were to create awareness of road safety matters among school children, as life safety is a right and responsibility of all.

The Director General said the citizens should abide by traffic rules and regulation while driving on roads as this was the matter of their own and the lives of others.  He said that the Punjab Emergency Service (Rescue 1122) has responded to 667, 784 road traffic crashes in Punjab so far, whereas over 600 families are being affected by average 500 RTAs on daily basis. “It is a matter of generation to resolve the issue since everyone is affected by road crashes but the worst, who suffer are kids,” he added. The students also pledged to abide by traffic laws and shall further convince their families to never break traffic rules and regulations.

Mr. Asif Khawaja said that children while sitting on front seats with their parents can convince their families to abide by traffic rules. According to him, when a child says his father to wear helmet for his safety before riding a motorbike then this message has great impact.
