DuPont Pakistan recently supported two community outreach programs addressing the rising concerns of food and water safety in Pakistan. The “Safe Water” project will provide access to a sustained supply of clean drinking water to a population of 34 households including 203 persons (52 male, 47 female, 104 children) in the villages of Manjhi Rind, Union Council Saringhiar, Taluka Chachro, and District Tharparkar. Partnering with the Association for Water, Applied Education & Renewable Energy (AWARE), an indigenous NGO (non-government organization), DuPont Pakistan installed a sustainable solar pumping system through the use of solar energy.
“The initiative will contribute toward solving a problem of diseases related to the consumption of unhealthy water and basic hygiene and sanitation,” said Tauqir Ahmed, Chief Executive Officer, DuPont Pakistan. “This water system will bring safe water to women and children and reduce the level of diarrhea, cholera, typhoid, shigella, meningitis, and hepatitis A and E episodes in the community. The application of solar water pump also demonstrates DuPont science and technology to reduce time and labor in fetching water. The saved time and energy can now be utilized in learning and development of other skills and contribute to household income.”
Secondly, the “Safe and Healthy Food Program” will provide nutritious lunch meals to the deaf children at the Family Education Services Foundation (FESF), Deaf Reach School Campus in Karachi, Pakistan. Through this fund, FESF will provide clean and safe food cooked and prepared by their in-house staff. This will enable them to physically and mentally improve their scholastic aptitude and establish life-long healthy eating habits.
“Our goal is to give back to the communities where we live and work. It’s part of our core values — safety and health, environmental stewardship, respect for people and highest ethical behavior — are the bedrock for everything we do. By supporting the food and water safety programs, we endorse our personal and professional commitment to protecting the safety and health of our people,” Mr. Ahmed added.
Recently, DuPont also hosted a reception in Karachi to celebrate 25 years of presence in Pakistan. The ceremony was led by Mr. Ian Hudson, President DuPont in Europe, the Middle East and Africa and Mr. Ghislain Desjardins, Regional Manager, Middle East, North Arica & Pakistan attended by distinguished guests, including leading business community, distributors, partners and DuPont Pakistan local team.
