Educational institutions including Peshawar army public school reopen

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The educational institutions in Punjab, Sindh and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa including the Peshawar army public school that was hit by a deadly terror attack last month, have reopened after prolonged winter breaks due to security concerns.

The army-run school in Peshawar witnessed the worst terror attack the country has seen in recent years on December 16 and that left 150 persons mostly school children dead.

Following the attack, directives were issues for educational institutions across the country to ensure that complete security arrangements are made. The winter vacations for all government and private schools were also extended till January 12 due to the security concerns.

The Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Raheel Sharif along with his wife visited the army public school in Peshawar on Monday and met with the students and their parents at the entrance of the school.

The COAS appreciated the courage of students and their parents. The students and parents expressed their determination for promotion of education. They expressed satisfaction over the security arrangements.

Later, the army chief along with his wife joined students in the morning assembly and recited dua (prayer) and national anthem with them.  

Meanwhile, the Inspector General Islamabad Police Tahir Alam said that curricular activities have begun in the curricular institutions of the federal capital.

In a statement, he said that extra-ordinary measures have been taken for the security of these educational institutions. He said that security alert system has been installed at the schools.
