ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The Chinese Ambassador to Pakistan Sun Weidong has acknowledged and appreciated Pakistan’s efforts in combating terrorism and ensuring security of Chinese people at the same time.
In a meeting with the National Security Adviser Lieutenant General (retd) Nasser Khan Janjua in Islamabad on Tuesday, the Chinese envoy expressed hope that these efforts would pave way for increased economic activity in the region.
The two sides exchanged views on bilateral relations between Pakistan and China, and the ways to further strengthen these ties.
Likewise, multiple areas including regional security, stability and matters concerning the security of Chinese working in Pakistan came under discussion during the meeting.
The two sides expressed satisfaction over the level and substance of bilateral cooperation and agreed to strengthen and diversify mutual cooperation for the sake of peace, development and stability in the region.
In his remarks, the national security adviser said that China and Pakistan are remarkable countries and they cherish their long lasting friendship.
The adviser said that China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) would certainly be a milestone in further strengthening the bilateral relations between them.
“Connectivity at global level will come through us and Pakistan is a bridge builder” he reiterated.
Nasser Janjua said that this mega project has the potential to streamline infrastructure along the length of Pakistan and would usher a new era of economic prosperity for the whole region.
Subsequently, the Home Secretary Punjab apprised the Chinese envoy of the security measures taken up by the Punjab government for the security of Chinese working in the province.
The home secretary also stressed the need to formulate and coordinate a better security strategy and a more comprehensive joint mechanism for information sharing with the Chinese government.
The Chinese envoy appreciated the initiatives of the Punjab government and remarked that the provincial government has accumulated good experience for the protection of Chinese.
