PESHAWAR, Pakistan: An improvised explosive device (IED) blast targeted the former member of the National Assembly belonging to the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Akhunzada Chattan in Bajaur agency on Saturday; however, the MNA remained unhurt in the attack.
The sources said that that attack took place in Mandal area of the tribal region.
They said that the former PPP lawmaker was on his way from the town of Khar to Mandal village to attend a political gathering. In the meantime, the IED planted on a roadside exploded near the village.
However, Akhunzada Chattan escaped the attack but some vehicles in his convoy were damaged.
Meanwhile, President Mamnoon Hussain and Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif strongly condemned the attack on the former lawmaker.
In his remarks, the prime minister reiterated the government’s resolve to eliminate terrorism from the country. He said that the military operation Zarb-e-Azb is yielding positive results and the terrorists are on the run.
The prime minister said that terrorists’ networks have been destroyed in the operation, and such cowardly acts indicate their frustration.
