ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) lawmaker Faisal Raza Abidi on Thursday tendered his resignation from Senate, a day after the party asked him to resign because he violated party discipline.
On Wednesday, the PPP General Secretary Raja Pervaiz Ashraf asked the Senator to resign on the directives of the party leadership.
The difference between Abidi and the PPP leadership had developed after the former had stated in a press conference in November last year that democracy had failed and martial law should be implemented in Pakistan.
Moreover, Abidi had also tendered his resignation in January 2013, following his outburst against then Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry but had later withdrawn it after meeting with the PPP chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari.
