Fawad Khan and Sanam Saeed Return
The web series, Barzakh, brings a fan-favourite couple Fawad Khan and Sanam Saeed after 10 years. They appeared in Zindagi Gulzar Hai and made everyone adore their chemistry. They are playing lead roles in this project. This project highlights intergenerational issues between fathers and sons.
Story
Barzakh brings a family drama that rotates around an elderly man looking for love in his life. This points out the lack of love and the gap between different generations. The story is set in Karachi and the northern areas of Pakistan. Along with searching for love, the story also touches on themes of life, death, and rebirth with traces of supernatural elements.
Fawad Khan is playing the role of a single parent with a son. His character seems to have a guilt of something lost in the past. Sanam is in the lead female role. She has otherworldly secrets that help her heal herself and the people around her. Barzakh offers some psychological and generational traumas of individuals along with some magical realism and supernatural elements, making it distinct from other projects.
Word From The Director
About the idea of this story, the director said, “In the aftermath of my father’s passing, and witnessing my son grow into a young boy, I found myself consumed with nostalgia, and memories of times gone and love lost. And I began to think about my fears – the end of consciousness, the end of imagination, the end of love. And from these fears, grew a story where love was indeed eternal. Where it survived us – making it the ultimate human legacy.”
He also added, “This series was conceptualized during the pandemic when all pre-defined notions of love, life, death, and beyond were going through a seismic shift. Online work, mourning, and celebrations had led to a sort of haze and confusion about what was real.”
Upon asking about the story of Barzakh, the director, Asim abbasi told, “What does it mean to be human? What does it mean to have a soul, and does it survive us? How does one find hope and joy in a perpetual state of limbo? These are the central concerns of ‘Barzakh’.”
The web series is available on ZEE5 Global and is recognized internationally by famous international platforms. Such unique projects are game changers for the Pakistani film industry.
