ISLAMABAD: The first Troika-Plus meeting of the Asian Parliamentary Assembly (APA) hosted by the Senate of Pakistan was held in Islamabad on Tuesday.
A communiqué adopted at the concluding session of the one-day meeting said that the APA decided to further utilize its great potential for augmenting interaction and cooperation among member parliaments.
The APA decided to identify the priority areas for further convergence and capacity building among its member countries.
The participants agreed for easing further interaction and cooperation among Asian countries in diverse areas.
The communiqué supported joint initiatives by Asian governments and parliaments to combat terrorism and organized crimes, illicit drug trafficking, human trafficking and money laundering.
Around 30 to 40 delegates from different countries including Afghanistan, Bahrain, Cambodia, Indonesia, Iran, Jordon and Syria participated in the meeting during which a number of important subjects pertaining to Asia and APA, particularly the strategy for transformation the APA into a functioning Asian Parliament were discussed.
