ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The ‘Global Hand Washing Day’ is being observed on Wednesday to promote handwashing with soap throughout the world.
The day observed on October 15 of each year, is a campaign to motivate and mobilise millions around the world to wash their hands with soap to disease prevention.
The first Global Handwashing Day took place on October 15, 2008, the date appointed by the UN General Assembly in accordance with year 2008 as the International Year of Sanitation.
The simple act of washing hands with soap can reduce the incidence of diarrhoea rates among children under five by 32 per cent and respiratory infections by nearly 32 percent.
