MULTAN, Pakistan: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has taken notice of dropping of Javed Hashmi’s pamphlets from a helicopter in Multan, and summoned footage of pamphlets.
It comes a day before the by-election is set to be held in NA-149 Multan-II for which Javed Hashmi is also contesting.
The ECP officials said that the commission will watch footage to give its verdict about the code of conduct.
The officials said that if violation of code of conduct by Javed Hashmi proved, he can be disqualified from the by-election in Multan.
Earlier in the day, media captured a helicopter dropping the leaflets bearing the photo of Javed Hashmi in the constituency.
Javed Hashmi, who is contesting the Thursday’s by-election as an independent candidate but with the support of ruling Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), said in a statement following the incident that airdropping of pamphlets in Multan is not election campaign, rather it is advertisement.
Hashmi said that Azhar Baloch is his friend and he spent Rs.40,000 on airdrop of pamphlets in Multan.
