LONDON: Google Plus has become the second biggest social network in the world, overtaking Twitter in fourth-quarter of 2012, a report by internet analytics company Global Web Index reveals. Facebook continues to enjoy its comfortable lead over rivals.
According to report, approximately 21% of the global internet population now uses Twitter and YouTube actively on a monthly basis. This compares to 25% actively using Google Plus and 51% using Facebook on a monthly basis.
Global Web Index used data on world’s biggest social network from thirty-one countries, which constitute 90% of the world’s population, and found that Facebook now has 693 million active users, even though it has over a billion total members. Its growth percentage in terms of active usage was 33%.
Google Plus has 343 million active users, while Twitter has 288 million active users. The active usage growth rate of Google Plus and Twitter was clocked at 33% and 40%, respectively.
