ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad High Court on Friday rejected a petition seeking to put the name of former President Pervez Musharraf in the Exit Control List (ECL).

The petition was filed by Haroon Rasheed, son of Abdul Rasheed Ghazi who was slain in 2007 Lal Masjid operation in Islamabad, a day after the Supreme Court of Pakistan accepted Mushrraf’s bail plea in a case pertaining to veteran Baloch politician Nawab Akber Bugti’s murder.

Afterwards, Musharraf’s counsel said that his client is a free citizen now and that he can travel to Dubai to meet his mother.

In his petition, Rasheed prayed before the court that the former president should be stopped from travelling abroad as he was allegedly involved in the murder of his father. He asserted that if Musharraf went abroad it would be difficult to bring him back.

Meanwhile, Islamabad police on Thursday arrested the former president in the murder case of Lal Masjid cleric Abdul Rasheed Ghazi.

A case against Musharraf over the murder of the Abdul Rashid Ghazi during the Lal Masjid operation that occurred in 2007 was registered last month by police after receiving an order from the Islamabad High Court.
