ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The Opposition Leader in National Assembly Syed Khursheed Ahmed Shah on Thursday said the incumbent National Accountability of Bureau (NAB) Chairman Qamar Zaman Chaudhry had been controversial from day one.
Talking to media representatives at the Parliament House in Islamabad, he met Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi and discussed the appointment of new NAB Chief.
“The purpose of the meeting (with the prime minister) was to reach a consensus on the name of new Chairman NAB,” Khursheed Shah said.
The Opposition Leader said opposition parties would soon recommend the name for new Chairman NAB.
“I have contacted leaders of other political parties and will soon be recommending name of an appropriate person for appointment as new Chairman NAB,” he said.
Khursheed Shah said he had so far contacted Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P) for the purpose.
Syed Khursheed Shah hoped that opposition parties would definitely evolve consensus on the name of person who would have no political affiliation and his past would be transparent.
“The new Chairman should be dedicated to eradicate corruption, as NAB has an important role in country’s politics,” Khursheed Shah remarked.
