India never responded positively on proposals on Siachen issue: FO

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The Foreign Office said on Thursday that India never responded positively on proposals regarding resolution of Siachen issue.

In her weekly media briefing in Islamabad on Thursday, the Foreign Office spokesperson Tasneem Aslam said that proposal of declaring Siachen a peace park and demilitarization of the territory came into our bilateral discussions in the past but Indian policy towards resolution of this issue always remained inflexible.

The spokesperson said that pronouncing bilateral negotiations between Pakistan and Indian on Kashmir as undermining UN Security Council’s resolutions, is legally and political incorrect.

Tasneem Aslam said that actual legal position on Kashmir is that the dispute must be resolved as per the aspirations of Kashmiri people through plebiscite. She said that Simla Agreement does not make UN resolutions ineffective.

Moreover, she said that Pakistan and India sooner or later will have to resume composite dialogues for the sake of sustainable peace in the region. She further said that consultation with Indian-held Kashmiri leadership is a routine matter.

Pakistan welcomes US, Afghanistan security deal

Regarding Afghanistan, the spokesperson said that Pakistan welcomes political transition in Afghanistan and also welcomes the bilateral security agreement between Afghanistan and the United States.

“Pakistan supports every initiative aimed at bringing stability in our western neighbor because sustainable peace is in our own interest,” she said.

The Foreign Office spokesperson said that being an independent country, Afghanistan can sign any agreement with any country.
