LAHORE: A special Indian airliner plane carrying the body of Sarabjit Singh, an Indian prisoner convicted for his alleged involvement in a series of bombings in Lahore and Faisalabad that killed 14 people, arrived in Amritsar this evening (Thursday).
Earlier, Sarabjit Singh’s body was flown to India from the Lahore airport after his body was handed over to officials from the Indian consulate after the autopsy.
There was no delay from Pakistan side in handing over of body of Sarabjit Singh and permission had been granted for dispatch of the body to India, Foreign Office spokesman said.
The 49-year-old Sarabjit Singh, who was sentenced to death 16 years ago on espionage charges, died in Lahore’s Jinnah Hospital on late Wednesday night after lying in a comatose state for the last five days, a senior doctor at the hospital said.
Singh went into a coma after suffering multiple serious injuries when six prisoners attacked him on April 26 at Lahore’s Kot Lakhpat Jail, hitting him on the head with bricks and fracturing his skull.
