TEHRAN: Iran will send military equipment to Iraq if requested by Baghdad as a help in fight against the Al-Qaeda-linked Sunni militant group Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL), the Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister for Arab and African Affairs Hossein Amir-Abdollahian said on Thursday in an interview.
“Should Iraq submit a request, we (Iran) would send military equipment to Iraq within the framework of the international law as well as conventional and transparent accords,” Amir-Abdollahian said.
However, he added, that the Iraqi government has not made such request yet.
Amir-Abdollahian further said that Iraq enjoys the capability to confront militants from the ISIL. He also emphasized that Iran will stand by Iraq in its campaign against terrorism.
