LB polls in Sindh: SC upholds SHC ruling on delimitation of constituencies

KARACHI: The Supreme Court of Pakistan on Thursday upheld the decision of the Sindh High Court (SHC) pertaining to delimitation of constituencies for local bodies elections in Sindh.

A three-member bench of the apex court headed by Chief Justice Justice Tassaduq Hussain Jillani was hearing the Karachi law and order implementation case in Karachi on Thursday.

During the proceedings, the apex court rejected an application filed by the Sindh government against a ruling of the SHC that had declared unlawful the delimitation of constituencies carried out for local bodies elections in the province.

In its short order, the court said that all preparation for local bodies elections should be completed within five months’ time and that the schedule for holding the polls should be announced in November.

The court observed that delimitation of constituencies and holding elections were responsibility of the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP).
