ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on Wednesday assured that the federal government will extend all possible support to the provinces to combat the menace of terrorism.

In a meeting to review implementation of the national action plan (NAP) in Islamabad on Wednesday, the premier also emphasized the need for close coordination between federation and provinces for implementation of the NAP on countering terrorism in letter and spirit.

The prime minister reminded that the national plan of action was prepared in consensus with the political leadership. He said that two items of the action plan have been implemented including the 21 constitutional amendments and an amendment in the army act.

Sharif stressed that implementation of the NAP is the key to avoid sanctuaries to the terrorists on any part of the country.

In addition, he said that capacity building of all law enforcement agencies is our foremost priority and to achieve this objective we are ready to allocate special funds.

Nawaz Sharif directed that transfers and postings in police should be done on merit in a transparent manner.

The meeting was attended by the Federal Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan, Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif, Sindh Chief Minister Syed Qasim Ali Shah, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Pervez Khattak, Balochistan Chief Minister Dr Abdul Malik Baloch, Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Raheel Sharif, Director General Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) Major General Rizwan Akhtar and other civilian & army officials.

The interior minister briefed the meeting about the implementation status of the plan while the chief ministers and chief secretaries briefed the prime minister about progress on the implementation of the NAP in their areas.

During the meeting, the matters relating to registration of Afghan refugees also came under discussion.
