Nawaz, General Raheel discuss Indian funding to MQM

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and the Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Raheel Sharif on Tuesday discussed various issues including the recent revelation by the BBC about Indian funding to the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM).

Last week, the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) in its documentary accused the Karachi-based MQM of receiving funding from India to carry out subversive activities.

In a meeting held at the PM House in Islamabad on Tuesday, the prime minister and the army chief also discussed other issues pertaining to national security.

The matters relating to the military operation Zarb-e-Azb as well as return, rehabilitation and resettlement of Temporarily Displaced Persons (TDPs) also came under discussion in the meeting.

Following the allegations leveled against the MQM, the Pakistani government wrote a letter to the British government seeking an access to information provided in the BBC documentary.

In an earlier interview, the MQM leader Tariq Mir had also confessed to the London police that the party Chief Altaf Hussain knew about Indian funding of MQM’s activities.

However, the MQM rejects all such allegations and terms them as a part of media trial and conspiracy against the party.
