ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The State Minister for Interior Shehryar Afridi told the Senate on Thursday that the previous government installed about 1,800 Security Cameras in the Federal Capital under the Safe City Project but unfortunately over 600 of them are non-functional.

Expressing his views over the murder of Superintendent of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Police Tahir Khan Dawar in the Upper House in Islamabad, Shehryar Afridi said that not a single Camera in Islamabad is able to capture recognizable pictures of vehicles and dubious people.

The state minister also urged the House to initiate an inquiry into the Safe City Project.

Shehryar Afridi said that slain SP Tahir Khan Dawar had life threats and survived two suicide attacks. He said that Tahir Khan Dawar was a brave son of the soil.

The minister said that the Afghan government confirmed on Wednesday the death of SP Tahir Khan Dawar, who had been kidnapped from Islamabad and shifted to Afghanistan via Mianwali and Bannu. He said that culprits behind this heinous crime will be taken to task.

Moreover, he told the House that a First Information Report (FIR) was registered in Ramna Police Station, Islamabad on November 28 regarding disappearance of the martyred police officer.

The minister also said that some sinister elements are bent upon destabilizing Pakistan. The said that the government is resolved to foil enemy’s moves.
