ISLAMABAD: Pakistan has strongly condemned the attack on the Turkish consulate general in Iraq’s second largest city of Mosul and the abduction of the consulate staff members.
On June 11, militants from the al-Qaeda-linked Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) stormed the Turkish consulate in the northern Iraqi city of Mosul, and took hostages 49 persons including the consul general, staff members, special operations teams and three children.
In a statement in Islamabad, the Foreign Office said that the abduction of the consulate staff including the consul general, is a serious breach of the inviolable status of diplomatic missions under international law, and is completely unjustified.
The Foreign Office while expressing solidarity with the Turkish people, called for the safe and immediate release of the abducted consulate staff.
