ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The Foreign Minister Makhdoom Shah Mahmood Qureshi on Monday stressed the need to expand Pakistan-UK cooperation and translate the existing ties into a tangible and multi-faceted strategic partnership.

Talking to the British Home Secretary Sajid Javid earlier reached Pakistan and met the foreign minister at the Foreign Office in Islamabad, Qureshi also appreciated Department for International Development’s (DFID) contribution towards the development of socio-economic sectors in Pakistan.

During the meeting, the two sides discussed various areas of regional and bilateral cooperation between Pakistan and the United Kingdom, in particular regional security, counter terrorism, organized crime, migration, human trafficking, money laundering and asset recovery.

The State Minister for Interior Shehryar Khan Afridi was also present in the meeting.

The British home secretary conveyed his government’s desire to support and work closely with the new government in all areas of mutual interest.

The two Countries closely cooperate under the institutional framework of the Enhanced Strategic Dialogue.

The British Home Secretary Sajid Javid will also meet Prime Minister Imran Khan.

In a tweet, the Prime Minister’s Special Assistant on Accountability Mirza Shahzad Akbar said that “Today after meeting of UK Home Sec with Prime Minister @ImranKhanPTI big announcement expected to be made on PM initiative of Assets recovery from abroad from UK side, big step for the success of Assets Recovery Unit”.
