MM Alam dies at 78. He was great Pakistani hero during 1965 Indo-Pak war

KARACHI: Popularly known as MM Alam, Pakistan’s hero of 1965 war Air commodore Muhammad Mahmood Alam passed away on Monday in Karachi after a prolonged illness, he was 78, Dispatch News Desk (DND) reported. MM Alam had been admitted to the Pakistan Naval Station Shifa, a naval hospital in Karachi, for the treatment of respiratory disease.

The retired Pakistani fighter pilot emerged as a hero in 1965 Pak-India war when he downed five Indian aircraft in less than a minute — the first four within 30 seconds.

MM Alam was a recipient of the Pakistani military decoration, the Sitara-e-Jurrat (“The star of courage”) for his achievement during the Indo-Pakistani War of 1965 and establishing a world record of shooting down warplanes.
