KARACHI: Popularly known as MM Alam, Pakistan’s hero of 1965 war Air commodore Muhammad Mahmood Alam passed away on Monday in Karachi after a prolonged illness, he was 78, Dispatch News Desk (DND) reported. He was on artificial respiration and medically dead since February 10, 2013 and Dispatch Nesk Desk (DND released story on same day. MM Alam had been admitted to the Pakistan Naval Station Shifa, a naval hospital in Karachi, for the treatment of respiratory disease.

The retired Pakistani fighter pilot emerged as a hero in 1965 Pak-India war when he downed five Indian aircraft in less than a minute — the first four within 30 seconds.

MM Alam was a recipient of the Pakistani military decoration, the Sitara-e-Jurrat (“The star of courage”) for his achievement during the Indo-Pakistani War of 1965 and establishing a world record of shooting down warplanes.
