ISLAMABAD: At least 24 persons were killed and more than 115 sustained injuries in a blast at Sabzi Mandi area of Islamabad on Wednesday morning.
Meanwhile, the United Baloch Army (UBA), a separatist militant outfit in Balochistan, claimed responsibility of the deadly terrorist attack.
The acting Inspector General of Islamabad police Khalid Khattak said that at least two dozen persons were killed and more than a hundred injured in today’s blast in Islamabad’s vegetable market.
Initial reports suggest that the explosive material was planted inside a box containing fruits, while according to police, a remote controlled bomb containing five kilograms of explosive material was used in the blast.
The blast took place at a time when labourers and early morning shoppers were busy purchasing fruits.
The deceased and injured were shifted to the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) and other hospitals.
The federal minister for interior Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan visited the site of the bomb blast at Sabzi Mandi Islamabad and later talking to media expressed the resolve of the government to bring perpetrators of the crime to justice.

On the other hand, speaking to media representatives over telephone, the spokesman for the UBA Mureed Baloch said that the rebel Baloch group has carried out the attack in retaliation to military’s ongoing operation in Balochistan’s Kalat district.
The UBA also claimed responsibility of the yesterday’s deadly blast that occurred inside a bogie of Jaffar Express at the Sibbi Railway station, killing at least 16 persons and injuring more than 45 others.
