PM Nawaz directs to revamp Pakistan Railways

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif chaired a high level meeting in Islamabad on Thursday, during which he directed to revamp Pakistan Railways in accordance with the ultramodern standards.

The prime minister also directed that all railway stations should be modernized with better services.

During the meeting, the prime minister appreciated railways ministry’s focus on improving governance, and the human resource policy based on merit and transparency.

The meeting was informed that the target of Rs 4.5 billion additional revenue was achieved this year and, with better management, there has been a reduction of Rs 5 billion in the losses of Railways.

It was further informed that request for proposals regarding feasibility study of Islamabad-Murree-Muzaffarabad railway link will be floated next week.

The meeting decided to reconstitute Railways Board with better representation from private sector.

The meeting was attended by Federal Minister for Railways Khawaja Saad Rafique, Federal Minister for Planning Ahsan Iqbal, Chief Minister Punjab Shahbaz Sharif and senior government officers.
