ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The ruling Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) – having highest number of Seats in the Upper House – has nominated Raja Zafar-ul-Haq as its candidate for election of the Chairman Senate, the party senior leader Mushahidullah Khan said on Monday.
Talking to media representatives in Islamabad, Mushahidullah said the Pakhtunkhwa Milli Awami Party (PkMAP) Senator Usman Khan Kakar had been nominated for the Slot of the Deputy Chairman Senate.
Mushahidullah said the decision over the election of the Chairman Senate and the Deputy Chairman Senate was made unanimously.
The PML-N senior leader said from the beginning, the Chairman Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Imran Khan had been doing politics of umpire and finger. He said democratic forces would foil the conspiracy.
Mushahidullah Khan said they had the required numbers to get their candidates elected the Senate top Slots. He said they had the support of Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) and Awami National Party (ANP) but Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P) didn’t yet assure its support to them.
The Opposition Parties including Pakistan People’s Party (PPP), PTI and Independent Candidates from Balochistan have already declared Sadiq Sanjrani and Saleem Mandviwala as their joint candidates for the Chairman Senate and the Deputy Chairman Senate respectively.
Meanwhile, eight FATA Senators and MQM-P have also announced to support Sadiq Sanjrani in the Chairman Senate election.
The election for the Chairman Senate and the Deputy Chairman Senate will take place at 4:00 pm today in the Upper House of the Parliament in Islamabad.
Earlier in the morning, 51 out of 53 newly-elected Senators took oath. The Presiding Officer Senator Sardar Yaqoob Khan Nasir administered oath to the new members.
