PML-N to move SC against election tribunal verdict on NA-125

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The ruling Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) will challenge the election tribunal’s judgment which ordered re-election in Lahore’s NA-125 constituency in the Supreme Court.

On Monday, an election tribunal ordered re-elections in NA-125 and PP-155 constituencies in Lahore after it observed massive irregularities and negligence during polling in 2013 general elections.

The PML-N’s Khawaja Saad Rafique had won the elections from NA-125 constituency by securing 123,416 votes.

In a joint press conference in Islamabad on Wednesday, Federal Information Minister Pervaiz Rasheed, Federal Planning and Development Minister Ahsan Iqbal and MNA Daniyal Aziz announced that the PML-N has decided to go into appeal against judgment of the election tribunal in NA-125 case.

The federal ministers said that there were sufficient grounds to challenge the verdict as the tribunal clearly said there was no irregularity on the part of Khawaja Saad Rafique.

The ministers said that there was also no evidence of any nexus between the candidate and the polling staff for systematic rigging. They said that the tribunal ordered re-election in the constituency on the basis of administrative irregularities and not because of illegalities.
