ISLAMABAD: The Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapaksa has cancelled his planned visit to Pakistan, the media reports said on Wednesday citing sources in the Foreign Office.
It comes as Pakistan is in the middle of protests by the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and the Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT) that have thrown the country into a state of political turmoil.
Rajapaksa along with a high-powered delegation was scheduled to arrive in Islamabad on August 22 to hold meetings with Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, President Mamnoon Hussain and the Chief of Army Staff General Raheel Sharif.
During the visit of the Sri Lankan president, memorandum of understanding (MOUs) were also to be signed between the two countries.
