SHANGHAI: President Mamnoon Hussain has arrived in China to attend the 4th summit of the Conference on Interaction and Confidence Building Measures in Asia (CICA), a multi-national forum for enhancing cooperation towards promoting peace, security and stability in Asia.
The three-day summit will be held in the Chinese city of Shanghai from May 20 to 21.
The president will highlight Pakistan’s efforts to overcome terrorism and promote peace and stability in the region.
During his stay, the president Mamnoon will also hold meeting with his Chinese counterpart Xi Jinping on the sidelines of conference. He will discuss bilateral cooperation and review progress on the proposed mega projects for economic development of Pakistan to be launched with the cooperation of China.
The president is also expected to hold bilateral meetings with other Asian leaders attending the conference and will discuss ways to further strengthen ties with these countries.
In addition, he will also attend a ceremony in Shanghai on Tuesday to launch Urdu Chinese Dictionary.
The Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif is also accompanying the president, and he will discuss with Chinese leadership progress over on-going developmental projects in energy, infrastructure, transport and other sectors.
Talking to media on his arrival at Shanghai airport, Shahbaz Sharif said that Pakistan and China are working to speedily implement the Chinese development package of $32 billion. He said that the government and people of Pakistan are grateful to China for extending such a huge financial package.
