LAHORE, Pakistan: As the Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT) is observing the martyrs day) on Sunday to pay tribute to the martyrs of Lahore’s Model town in June, the provincial government has taken various steps to contain the PAT activists on the day, the media reports said.
The reports said that the security has been beefed up across the city while mobile services are suspended in Model Town area, where PAT protesters are trying to reach the Minhajul Quran secretariat.
Likewise, all entry and exit points to Model Town including the Babu Sabu interchange, Manga Mandi and Thokar Niaz Beg have been closed. The security personnel has also sealed bridge on GT Road and Sagyan area.
Moreover, helicopters are being used for the aerial surveillance of the Minhajul Quran Secretariat and barbed wire has been used on top of walls to keep protesters out.
PAT workers, police clash in Lahore; 260 PAT workers arrested in Bhakkar, Vehari
Meanwhile, clashes broke out in several parts of the provincial capital between police and the PAT workers. The reports said that three policemen were injured in a skirmish with protesters.
On the other hand, at least 260 PAT workers were detained in a police crackdown in Bhakkar and Vehari.
